From the Ministry of Good News

I would like to offer a pointer to a site and a blogger who I think is heads and shoulders above the crowd. Someone who speaks out on matters of importance based on logical assessments rather than Party line or self interest. I don't generally direct people to other sites, but I wanted to point out to our little group that I read this blog regularly. Below is a link to one of the best thought out and articulately expressed posts I have read. Perhaps the best of the best actually, and that has to be in the category of good news, wot?

  2. You don't even have to be a mother to enjoy this one . . .

Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was.

Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of the platonic relationship between Brian and Jennifer, and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, 'I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates.'

About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying,

'Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?'

Brian said, 'Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure. So he sat down and wrote:

    Dear Mom,

I'm not saying that you 'did' take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you 'did not' take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

    Love, Brian

Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that read:

    Dear Son,

I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.

    Love, Mom

". . . I know how hard it is to buy anything not made in China, but I swear I will never go up in a plane made in China. Now there's something else I have to add.

"Apparently, the US Government is the biggest purchaser of condoms in the world. Before you jump to any conclusions, I think they ship them to Africa to combat AIDS. Very commendable. These condoms have always been made in Alabama and cost 5¢ each. Well now, the famous Hong Kong Rubber Johnnie Company in China can do them for 2¢ each. So the USA will now buy them from China.

"I don't know about you but Chinese airplanes and condoms have the ring of disaster to me. I don't know who tests them, but aren't there over a billion people in China?"

The name "Rubber Johnnie" has a nice 'ring' to it, n'est-ce-pas?! One for the road, plus link:

I thought this article was pretty good.

I get upset when people say to criticize Israel is anti-semitic but what are we if we say nothing? To say nothing does that mean we condone the behaviour??

    Peace dudes

  5. Dee, spot the powerplay in this one -

The estimable Kady O'Malley live-blogged a meeting on the Hill about denying that Brit MP Galloway entry to Canada. Here is what she wrote:

    http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/03/25/how-to-kill-time-while-waiting-to-talk-to-cbsa-liveblogging-the-launch-of-the-galloway-legal-challenge/

There are some issues here, not to mention the odd absurdity. But there was no Liberal participation. Zip, nada. And not even a question in to-day's QP. Why do you suppose not?

Let me suggest that the Jewish Defamation League has spoken, making Galloway poison to both Conservatives and Liberals. It doesn't matter how ridiculous declaring Galloway a threat to the security of Canada (!) may be, he is considered to be a threat to Jewish interests, and the Government and Loyal Opposition of Canada prostrate themselves.

Another reason to vote neither Conservative nor Liberal.

From the liberalsonline feed cluster. His post made me so sad. Some of the posters on the other boards are right. We criticize the farther right some people go. And that knowledge makes me even sadder.

Many thanks for pointing out the Kady entry Herb.

  8. Nay, tis not I who is a bigot, tis thee. Only thee is worse, because thee is an anti semitic bigot. Worst of the worst.

Old English quotation; "Everyone is queer, except thee and me, and even thee is a little queer." Just thought I would mention that.

Coming from the true East, I have some experience in the art of folks throwing the bigot word about. It can begin with legitimate concerns and basis, but end up being so badly abused that it not only becomes a bad joke, but also a source of extreme irritation by itself, between the affected parties. Its use really becomes much less than legitimate when there no longer is significant basis for the complaint and the situation has evolved to a point where the supposedly abused, in fact become abuser. Along these lines comes the consideration taught in western societies to Children via the story of The Boy who cried Wolf. Eventually the targeted audience grew weary of the Boys cries, and no longer listened.

And I don't know that it is so much about actual existing feelings of paranoia as it is how best to foster these feelings and take advantage. Such as became the case of the true Eastern bigot cryers.

I have no doubt whatsoever that there is a propaganda and opinion suppression campaign afoot in response to the recent actions and press offerings regarding the State of Israel. Contained within this approach is the branding of anyone who dares oppose the policies and propaganda of said State.

The objective of the tactic is simple. To diminish any who may speak out or even for that matter question any aspects involved in the entirety of this. This, in itself does not win friends and support. It may cower many, but there will be far more who resent being inaccurately and unfairly labeled and will over time, react to this.

Another thing, while these "forces" stoke the fires to make the embers burn brightly on this issue, people are distracted from focusing their attention on what the economic wizards are doing in the shadows. It's a classic flanking maneuver btw, just to let you know. Plop, is the sound the shiny lure made when it hit the water.

The other thought your article spurred Dee was still another classic strategy. One exemplified in the words of Herman Goering that I have quoted in the past. The essence of which is how easy it is to control the thoughts of a people by telling them they are being attacked. Supporting this by utilizing grievances from past decades or even centuries is also most effective strategy, as I alluded to above in the case of Eastern Canada.

People can't think for themselves and think clearly if they allow their thoughts to be clouded by the manipulating Carpet Baggers with an agenda.

Last thoughts for now. That was an excellent and thoughtful article. Among many things it fosters thought on just how important Jewish people think they are in the scheme of the world, and supports a question I have pondered for a while. Is there another country of 5.3 million souls in this world that demands as much attention from the world as does Israel?

  10. Courtesy of Boyce Richardson, here is a link that Mr. Mason definitely would find anti-semitic. It is to an Israeli non-Zionist activist and raises interesting possibilities -

    http://zope.gush-shalom.org/home/en/channels/avnery/1237674669/

I don't think that the the use of the anti-semitic monster is a diversionary activity, but a continuous effort to secure Israeli interests. The fact that a Semitic tribe declared itself to be God's Chosen People a few millenia ago and is using the 1940s holocaust to revise the Roman conquest of 70 AD at the expense of existing Palestinians hardly makes a strong case in itself.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Backing that up Herb, I believe that in the interests of securing Israels physical security and economic security, the diversionary tactic of widespread charges of antisemitism is employed. It's not the only method by any means, but an integral one none the less,in the quest for power and influence. Money is power and that kind of power leads to things such as Olmert's statement about calling Bush away from a speech in order to straighten him out.

    Will the circle, be unbroken?

The rest of what you wrote makes for a convincing argument.

  12. Great Holy Googlie Gremlins From Hell! Another Grandpa story . . .
    ------
A grandpa, who worked away from home all week, always made a special effort to be with his grandchildren and family on the weekend.

Every Sunday morning he would take his 7-year old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some bonding time. Just he and his granddaughter.

One particular Sunday however, he had a bad cold and really didn't feel like being up at all. Luckily, his wife came to the rescue and said that she would take their granddaughter out. When they returned, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs to see her grandfather.

'Well, did you enjoy your ride with grandma?'

'Oh yes, PaPa' the girl replied, 'and do you know what?

'We didn't see a single dumb bastard or lousy shithead anywhere we went today!'

Brings a tear to your eye, dunnit?

"Rather than solving our problems, more inflation will only add to the crisis. Falling asset prices, the credit crunch, declining consumer spending, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and layoffs are all part of the necessary rebalancing of our economy. . . ."

The word 'inflation' looms large, esp. with deflation (now) which brings shrinking wages / unemployment / other countries' lack of buying power, etc.

Inflation, if left unchecked becomes hyperinflation, then a replay of what happened several decades ago.
    ------
From moneyandmarkets: ". . . the dollar will tumble sharply, gold will likely zoom to new highs, oil will take off to the upside, and virtually all natural resources will start re-inflating.

"Don’t expect the economy to improve though. It’ll stay stuck in the doldrums, to say the least.

"But as I’ve said many times, the economy does not have to recover to get huge rallies in many markets.

"The reason: When a currency is deliberately devalued, as the dollar is experiencing now, asset prices must adjust upwards to reflect the loss of purchasing power in that currency.

"And this is what happens when you have floating, paper currency systems."

  14. It was Morton's entry on anti-semitism.

The circle won't be broken until more Canadian Jews speak out against Israeli actions. I find it unfortunate that they're all lumped in together because not all those who are Jews feel the same way.

You're right comrade about all the fodder regarding anti-semitism and Galloway is/may be used as a diversion about the economy and the budget. I really hope the whole Jewish community wasn't used for that purpose. If they were....??

Thank you, again, for the link Herb.
